Instruct your students to only color the bird. Don't color around the cage because the cage changes.
Make sure to show the back side of the empty cage and explain why the kids should also!

More Tips
Make sure the kids take their time and carefully weave the strips when assembling the vanishing bird so they don’t fold or crush the strips. Some kids will need help allow time for this.
Tilt the cage up towards the sky as you vanish the bird so it looks like the bird flies away!
Weave the PINK key card first. Make sure it is pushed all the way to the edge of the cage making room for the GREEN key card.
